Robert Sproul was born circa 1725 at County Tyrone, Ireland.2 He married Sarah Whitcomb, daughter of Joseph Whitcomb and Elizabeth (?), on 15 November 1745 at Marlborough, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, USA.3,4,5,2,1,6 Robert Sproul married Jane (?) circa 1775 at Granville, Annapolis County, Nova Scotia, Canada.3,2,1 Robert Sproul died on 1 February 1802 at Granville, Annapolis County, Nova Scotia, Canada.3,2,1
Robert Sproul appeared in the census of 1790 with Robert Sproul Jr., Elliot Sproul, Andrew Sproul, John Sproul, James Sproul and Sarah Sproul and they lived in Granville, Annapolis County, Nova Scotia, Canada.7 Robert is shown as a member of Capt. J. Weeks Company of Marlborough in the French and Indian wars in 1757. I could find nothing regarding Robert's parents or siblings. The only other Sprouls found in this time frame and general local are Ann, John, and Robert (of) Mannor living in nearby Stow, Massachusetts.
Robert and his family moved from Marlborough to Granville, possibly in a group led by Henry Evans of Sudbury, Massachusetts, in 1760. The New England Planters, as they were known, traveled in 22 ships to take over the lands the Acadians had vacated in the Annapolis Valley and around Minas Basin. One of the ships was named the Charming Molly and sailed from Boston on May 17, 1760 with 25 heads of families and a total of 45 passengers. On June 19, 1760 it brought 25 more families from Boston to Annapolis.8
